Abstract

The University of Basel Kings' Valley Project explores a series of undecorated non-royal tombs along the path leading to the tomb of Thutmosis III (KV 34). The main aims of the investigation are the following:

- survey of the area, first complete documentation of the tomb architecture

- definition of the phases and forms of use of this sector of the cemetery, chronological evolution and social relevance.

The discovery of a new tomb, KV 64, in January 2012 yealded an undisturbed 22nd Dynasty burial as well as remains of a severely looted 18th Dynasty burial. Work currently concentrates on the exploration of KV 40 and KV 33.

Eleven tombs are currently under study: KV 26, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 37, 40, 59, 61, and 64.
