Abstract |
Computation has become an integral part of molecular biology research. A vast number of molecular biology studies make use of computational methods such as sequence comparisons, phylogenetic tree reconstruction, gene prediction, protein structure prediction, etc. Moreover, technologies such as DNA microarrays and deep sequencing, that have revolutionized the way one can probe cellular behaviour, are inconceivable without the use of computers and quantitative analyses. The purpose of this grant application is to modernize and extend the computational infrastructure available at the Biozentrum in Basel, which supports projects in molecular and computational biology. The aim of the project at hand is the implementation of a hierarchical storage architecture for the [BC]2 Basel Computational Biology Center at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel. |
