Abstract |
This contribution deals with the vernacular literature written, produced, and -to a lesser degree- consumed by Sephardim of converso origin from the sixteenth until the end of the eighteenth century. Given the geographical dispersion, the large chronological span and the frequently blurred religious identity of the so called "New Christian" Diaspora -of which a part remained Christian, another embraced formal Judaism and still another escaped confessional affiliations or traved between them- the literature studied here does not belong to an easily definable group of producers or readers, nor is this literature itself clearly distinguishable from other literatures. |
