Abstract

The purpose of this book is to bring together as wide a variety of methodological options in comparative philosophy as is possible within a single volume of standard length. Accordingly, the proposed book includes essays from leading comparativists that are both distinctive in their method and explicit about its application. Furthermore, these essays have been selected to maximize the diversity of philosophical traditions both informing these methods and being addressed by them, with representation from nearly every part of the world. Our approach in presenting these essays is twofold: first allowing each essay to stand in contrast to the others in their own right, and then following up on these essays with a subsequent, reflective essay by the editors. The result will be a valuable resource in comparative methodology that can both challenge and enrich the awareness and sensitivity of both beginning comparativist and seasoned veteran alike.
