Abstract

We developed in 2016 a novel self-report questionnaire to assess subjective swallowing difficulties (SD) with medication intake and their practical consequences in ambulatory patients. The questionnaire consisted of 30 items divided into 5 sections Complaints, Intensity, Localization, Coping strategies, and Adherence. We validated it in people suffering from systemic sclerosis (SSc), a rare multisystem autoimmune disease that often leads to swallowing problems with food and liquids with progression. Then, we validated it in 2018/19 in the general population. The translation in English was performed in 2019/2020 as an exchange project at the University of York (Ireland). Now we will reshape the questionnaire to its use in pharmacy practice and develop tailored interventions.
