Abstract |
Cyprus is a remarkable case of transformation from the British colonial and postcolonial spatial and ideological dimensions towards more European and EU narratives. In the current state of affairs and the Brexit discourses, Cyprus has turned to be even more prominent as the UK is bound to the exit the EU. Through the prism of the Political Discourse Analysis, the thesis looks at selected parliamentary debates and media discourses in the EU and the UK on the Cyprus Problem, as well as selected writings of European versus British political writers that address the conflict. Cyprus is not only torn between European and British political discourses, but also Greek and Turkish ones. The key to the analysis of the conceptual space of the conflict is the phenomenon of territorial versus institutional and ideological divisions.
