Abstract	Abstract: If we applied to the speaker of the Examen des esprits the same "professional diagnosis" that he proposes, what profession and correspondingly what temperament, temperate or intemperate, would apply to him? This article shows that the unclassifiable uniqueness of the speaker of the Examen , which defies medical categories and aesthetic judgements, establishes a contradiction between the saying and the said through the praxis of a doctor-philosopher who writes as an effective rhetorician, a veritable adunaton in the Huartian system.
