Abstract How can differing narratives of past state violence be negotiated between the victims and denying perpetrators? What is the role of film and academia in these negotiations? A pioneering doctoral workshop at the University of Basel, organized by Nataša Mišković and Bilgin Ayata, discussed these issues with two prominent directors from Turkey and Croatia, Nezahat Gündoǧan and Lordan Zafranović.
