The Basel Law School in cooperation with Prof Luis Moreno Ocampo, Former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and currently Associate to the Carr Center for Human Rights policy, Kennedy School at Harvard University will facilitate a case study in the form of a week-long role game.

The FIFA Governance structure will be analyzed, taking into consideration the changes proposed by the Independent Governance Committee (IGC) led by Prof Mark Pieth and their implementation. The cases investigated by different national authorities, including USA and Switzerland will be summarized in accordance with public information and new reforms will be discussed at class. Students will experience the dilemmas of the reform process of real existing officials and reformers faced with an institution recently called a “criminal organization” by US law enforcement agencies. They will – based on the concrete past – develop their own perspectives. In a final event we will present the findings, a critical public, including journalists and reform protagonists. Prof Luis Moreno Ocampo and Prof Mark Pieth have developed a modern teaching methodology which will be applied.
