Abstract |
Urbanità e identità fra Oriente e Occidente: musica, arti e cultura al tempo del concilio di Basilea-Ferrara-Firenze-Roma (1431-1445)
Convegno internazionale, Venezia 11-12 maggio 2012 – Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi
By initiative of the Institute of Musicology of Basel University and of Ugo and Olga Levi Foundation, the international conference Urbanität, Identitätskonstruktion und Humanismus: Musik, Kunst und Kultur zur Zeit des Basler Konzils was held on 19-20 August 2011. It was an occasion to collect contributions coming from diffe- rent academic fields aiming to ascertain to what extent some cultu- ral and artistic events still linked to the medieval frame of mind can be read in terms of the formation of a new European identity. Talks are going to be resumed with the international conference Urbanity and identity between East and West: music, art and culture at the time of Basel - Ferrara - Florence - Rome council (1431-1445) during which the topic of the making of a new religious, political and cultural European order will be examined, focusing on the relationship with the Eastern world. The purpose is to investigate to what extent the Greek-Byzantine culture helped shape a new European identity in the first half of the fourteenth century.
The study meeting will enable participants to re-consider the aspects which show a tendency towards an internationalisation of music in the fifteenth century, in order to look into repertoires, also in relation to the emerging necessity of creating a common musical language.
