Abstract A new Syrian-German cooperation project was launched in 2007 to investigate the city of Shayzar, recorded in written sources from the late bronze age to the early Mamluk period. The brief first campaign included a collection of surface pottery and architectural fragments as well as geodetic and limited geophysical survey.
