| Abstract |
Guidelines of several European countries including Switzerland recommend vaginal delivery for HIV-infected women with undetectable viral load and without Hepatitis C co-infection and other potential risk factors. Despite such guidelines, the rate of caesarean section in HIV-infected women remains high. Furthermore there is some evidence, that despite full availability of highly active antiretroviral treatment the proportion of women with ongoing viral replication at the time of delivery remains substantial. The aim of this study is to find out, why and to what extent there are still missed opportunities to reach full suppression of viral replication at the end of pregnancy in HIV-infected pregnant woman enrolled in the Swiss HIV Cohort Study or the European Collaborative Study.
