Anti-IgE antibodies (Omalizumab) modfies the composition of the extracellular matrix by airway smooth muscle cells
Third-party funded project
Project title Anti-IgE antibodies (Omalizumab) modfies the composition of the extracellular matrix by airway smooth muscle cells
Principal Investigator(s) Roth-Chiarello, Michael
Organisation / Research unit Departement Biomedizin / Pulmonary Cell Research (Roth/Tamm)
Project start 01.11.2010
Probable end 30.04.2012
Status Completed
Abstract Remodelling in asthma and COPD are today regarded as essential, pre-inflammation, events. Changes of the extracellular matrix are a central part of remodelling and it is unknown if IgE has any effect on this mechanism. This study investigates if IgE (which are enhanced in asthma) modify the composition of the extracellular matrix laid down by airway smooth muscle cells and if the inhibition of IgE can prevent or reduce remodelling of the lung.
