Abstract The NEURAPRO-E study (North America, EUR, Australia PROdrome Study) aims to assess the effect of omega-3 fatty acid treatment combined with a cognitive behavioural therapy and case management program on the conversion to psychosis in symptomatic young people at ultra high risk of developing a psychotic illness, as compared to the effect of cognitive behavioural therapy and case management alone. The primary outcome to be measured is the rate of transition to psychosis at 6 months, as determined by the Comprehensive Assessment of At-Risk Mental States instrument (CAARMS). Secondary outcomes will include assessment of the levels of symptomatology, including depression, positive, negative and basic symptoms, and levels of social, occupational, and general functioning, as well as assessment of the rate of transition to psychosis at 12 and 24 months of follow-up.
